An Ode to My Ankle

Chapter 15

The one that hurts, the one that swells

Oh how you treat me so well…..

I left work early today since I am working again at 11:00 PM tonight. I decided since the pine cone attack this past Sunday, I was ready to give it a try. Actually if truth be told, I was crazy with need to run! Three days of hobbling around knowing it just was not possible made it oh that much worse.

I dressed before leaving the building lacing up my tennys with quite a lot of anticipation while looping the bunnies. Walking to the car, I felt a wee little twinge which I ignored like anyone in my shoes would. After all, it will stop, right? But of course!

I climbed out of my car at the hateful timed trail and began at a slow pace. My ankle was doing well. I ran the whole first lap and only walked the second due to an unbelievable side stitch. I mean this thing was incredible, so I decided to start walking the second lap until it subsided. Unfortunately it took the whole lap.

Round three, I began with a jog. So, the second lap really cooled everything off and I was stiffer than my high school hairdo. It took about 3/4 of a mile before I could speed up a little and with only 1/2 a mile left, I was able to resume a fairly decent pace, for an injured woman. My knee actually hollered more at me during that last lap than my ankle did all day. That slow running bit back at me.

Anyway, I was so happy that I was actually able to run today. I must admit, I was a little worried that I’d do more injury that good, but I think I should still be on track for 13 on Sunday. Tomorrow I plan on going to the gym and squating like a queen.
